MNE competence creating subsidiary mandates: an empirical investigation (with J.A.Cantwell)

要旨：The determinants of R&D expenditure differ between subsidiaries in an MNE. The qualitative nature of R&D behavior (and hence also the extent of investment in R&D) differs, depending upon whether a subsidiary is assigned a competence-creating mandate. We estimate a strategic model of the determinants of the subsidiary R&D/sales ratio、 that treats the subsidiary mandate as a prior variable chosen strategically by the firm, i.e., the grant of a competence-creating mandate to a subsidiary is endogenous.

混雑効果を伴う貿易不可能な情報ネットワークとその貿易パターンへの影響について

要旨：本稿では、混雑現象が発生する各国、各地域毎に形成される情報ネットワークを明示的に導入した貿易モデルを構築し、情報ネットワーク費用が貿易パターンにもたらす影響を検討する。この時、均衡が存在する場合一意かつ安定である閉鎖経済から２国間で貿易が開始されると、ネットワーク費用のパラメータと各国の要素賦存量に依存して相対的に要素賦存量が豊富な国に差別化の生産が集中し残る１国が同質財に特化するような均衡と、両国とも不完全特化するような均衡が出現することを示す。すなわち、情報ネットワーク利用者の増加による混雑現象に起因する各企業あたりの情報ネットワーク費用負担の増加がネットワーク外部性に起因する情報ネットワーク費用負担の軽減を上回る時、両国間で産業内貿易が発生するような均衡が出現する。

要旨：本稿は、通勤者の交通手段に対する嗜好が異質である場合における使用者均衡の一意性を分析する。交通ネットワークが一般的な場合の反例、および、｢単純｣である場合の一意性が示される。
要旨：アメリカでは1947年から公式の都市圏が設定され、各種の統計データが都市圏単位で整備されている。これに対して、日本では政府レベルの取り組みは存在せず、何人かの研究者が独自に都市圏定義を提案しているに過ぎない。この論文の目的は、研究者及び政策担当者が幅広く利用できる新しい都市圏設定基準を提案することである。

Dynamic stability of multi-central urban model

Product diversity, taste heterogeneity, and geographic distribution of economic activities: market vs. non-market interactions

要旨：本稿では財の多様性と居住地区に関する選好の異質性がどのように経済活動の地理的分布を決定するかを分析した。市場を通じた財の多様性は“Home Market Effect”により集積力を生むのに対して、市場を介さない選好の異質性は各個人に固有の確率項で表わされ、確率的な固定（地域特殊）要素として分散力を生みだすことを明らかにした。この枠組みをもとに均衡の都市化（集積）の度合い、地域間賃金格差、移住率を３つのパラメータ、すなわち、（１）差別化された財の間の代替弾力性で表わされる財の多様性、（２）確率変数の分散で表わされる消費者の異質性、（３）輸送費用、で特徴づけた。

Voting model for constructing public transportation infrastructure

要旨：This paper describes a Condorcet voting model to locate highways in linear space. Although electorates enjoy the highways, flat tax and toll are imposed on them. First, we verify that the electorates choose longer (shorter) highway for higher (lower) construction costs than optimal policy. Second, we prove that raising toll rate improves both efficiency and equity. Third, we reveal that for high construction costs, a two-stage model where the location and the toll rate and voted on leads to the worst policy. Fourth, we show that decentralization may cause less inefficiencies in the voting than in the planning.

Multiple listings and the geography of equity trading

要旨：This paper analyses the informational role of listings in different markets. In fragmented markets entrepreneurs may have an incentive to list their stocks in markets where relevant expertise concerning the firms activities is concentrated.
