Outline of Our Institute
The Institute of Economic Research was established
in 1962 with the primary purpose of promoting quantitative economic research
with special emphasis on the Japanese economy. The Institute is composed
of seven research divisions and one research center:
Quantitative
Industry Analysis
Comparison of Economies
Economics of Complex Systems
Resources and Environment
National Wealth
Contemporary Economic Analysis
(Visiting research)
Applied Financial Engineering (Sponsored
by Nomura Securities Group)
Research Center for Financial Engineering.
The range of those research activities includes
research and development of short- term econometric forecasting and quantitative
management models of the Japanese economy. The titles of the main research
projects now being conducted are:

Japanese Industrial Organization;

Studies in Industrial Relations
Nonlinear
Dynamic Economic Systems
Comparison
of Economic Systems
Cost- Benefit Analysis of Environmental

Statistical Methods of Estimation

Game Theory.
In practice, these studies are conducted
by the Institute's research staff in cooperation with collaborators
from other academic institutions. The research results are published
in the form of
monographs, reprint series from external Publications and discussion
papers.
Library: The
institute has a library covering overseas publications as well
as domestic publications. For details concerning access to the
library, please consult the librarians.
Education: Currently,
the Institute's faculty members basically take part in the rgaduate
program at Graduate School of Economics as "cooperating" staff.
CCES: CCES (Center
for the Research of Complex Economic Systems) is a research group
formed within the Institute with some outside members, based on
the COE (Center of Excellence) program by the Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Thechnology.
The Institute has a library covering overseas publications
as well as domestic publications.
