This Center was established in 2000 to promote research in financial engineering. Here financial engineering is understood as a science for the functional efficiency of finance in view of effective utilization of capital and it includes such broad areas as asset pricing, derivative, investment, risk management, securitization, real options, etc. Of course, the Center puts a special focus on new developments in the no-arbitrage theory for pricing risk and the portfolio theory for managing risk, which form core theories for these areas. Current research topics treated in the Center are; the convergence problem of finance and insurance from a viewpoint of financial engineering, pricing insurance risks, modeling prepayment risk in the mortgage-backed securities, application of real options to real estate, etc.
Moreover, the KIER branch office was established in Tokyo Marunouchi in 2004. In here collecting excellent wisdoms and we are doing more advanced research for financial engineering. Current research subject is the public pension system that is a social big problem, we are studying to construct a new pension system, doing the comparative simulation by the approach of financial engineering.
